Invitation to take part in NWEC’s Community Strategy

The New West End Company (NWEC) is developing a community strategy that looks at the lived experiences, needs and ambitions of communities in the West End. They’re currently recruiting for 10-15 people to take part in a series of workshops during January and February. The process will also include a photography project where you’ll be invited to record your experience of the West End through photos, whilst learning editing skills. As a thank you, each participant will receive a £50 voucher to use at NWEC retailers. You can register your interest at www.tinyurl.com/nwecsurvey, but sign up soon as spaces are limited!

Greening Mayfair: Mount Street Piazza

The MNF invested £4,000 from its Mayfair Green Route Neighbourhood CIL funding allocation to restore the underplanting at Mount Street Gardens Piazza, reviving the public realm scheme which sits at the entrance to the gardens and leading towards Farm Street church. Mount Street Gardens forms part of section 4 of the Mayfair Green Route.

A mix of new native white, mauve and purple lavenders have been planted to complement the established olive trees. The plants are thriving with flowering and first flowering is expected late May/ early June and will then provide seasonal colour right through to the autumn/winter. All grown sustainably just an hour from site in a Berkshire nursery the lavender species have been selected for their mix of fragrance, colour and appearance. Installed within the olive tree canopies are new bamboo cane bee and bug discs to provide a refuge for the pollinators, supporting the ambitions of the Wild West End Project and the London Bee Corridor.

Members of the MNF steering group members and local Ward Cllrs have all provided their support for this mini project. Special thanks goes to: Landscape gardener Alex Jones of the Central London Gardening Company for horticultural expertise and undertaking the planting works. And The New West End Company for ensuring the piazza pavement benefitted from a spring clean and jet wash.

Placemaking London have undertaken project management on behalf of the MNF CIL Sub Committee and are leading discussions with Westminster City Council officers regarding repairs to the low-level lighting. The Central London Garden Company has been retained to provide regular maintenance.
